Dear Customers,
At Ross-Wells, the health and safety of your pets remain our top priority. We understand that many of our customers prefer to feed raw diets without cooking or any pasteurizing, and we remain committed to providing the highest-quality raw pet food possible.
In response to ongoing concerns regarding Bird Flu in the United States, Ross-Wells proactively submitted multiple raw pet food samples to the University of Minnesota for Bird Flu testing, and we are pleased to report that every sample tested negative for the virus. Despite the good news, The University of Minnesota cautioned that a safe sample may not guarantee the safety of an entire batch.
Ross-Wells takes measures that improve the likelihood that our samples represent our batches. Ross-Wells utilizes highly efficient industrial mixers, which allow for exceptionally uniform ingredient distribution throughout large production batches. For example, our mixing technology is capable of evenly dispersing less than one pound of trace minerals into a 16,000-pound batch, ensuring each sample is highly representative of the whole batch. This minimizes variability and increases confidence in our test results. Simply put, if Bird Flu were present in a batch, our thorough mixing process would maximize the likelihood of detecting it in testing.
Temporary Suspension of Titan Food Production
Out of an abundance of caution, Ross-Wells has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend production of Titan Food while we explore additional safety measures. One of the solutions we are actively investigating is High Pressure Pasteurization (HPP)—a process that may help further reduce the risk of Bird Flu while preserving the raw nature of the food. We understand that some customers have concerns about HPP. For this reason, we are carefully evaluating whether this process can enhance safety while maintaining the nutritional qualities that raw feeders value.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed of our progress. Our goal is to resume production as soon as possible while ensuring the highest safety standards for your pets.
We appreciate your trust and patience as we navigate this challenge. Your commitment to raw feeding is important to us, and we remain dedicated to transparency and providing the safest, highest-quality food possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thanks much,
Bob
Our productsUpdate as of 1/28/25
On Monday 1/27/25 John from Ross-Wells reached out to Dustin (owner) to ask that we halt sales and do not put any additional product out. They are asking us to return existing product that we have to the plant. There is no formal recall in place at this time.
Official Email From Ross-Wells as of 1/23/25
Dear all individuals utilizing Ross-Wells pet foods,
John has made the decision to temporarily suspend the production and shipment of Titan products until we have more reliable information regarding the potential risks associated with the avian influenza ("bird flu"). We have been receiving inconsistent reports from experts concerning critical factors such as:
- Mutation potential of the virus.
- Cross-species transmission risks.
- The threshold at which contamination poses a threat to carnivorous animals.
- Any additional data to guide informed decision-making.
Given these uncertainties, we are prioritizing caution over continued operations.
- We understand that many of our customers rely on Titan products for their pets' health, with some reporting significant improvements in chronic conditions after switching to our diet. We deeply empathize with their concerns during this suspension.
Recent Developments
Despite receiving consistent test results from the University of Minnesota indicating no presence of the bird flu virus in our samples, the most recent submission included an unexpected disclaimer. This raises questions about the reliability of past test results and has heightened concerns. Compounding the issue is new information suggesting the virus has jumped to cattle and resulted in a human fatality.
Additionally, conflicting data exists regarding the effectiveness of freezing temperatures in neutralizing the virus, with credible experts stating that freezing does not reliably eliminate it.
Next Steps
We are actively exploring alternative decontamination methods, including:
- High-pressure pasteurization.
- Electrification.
- Ozone treatment.
Our goal is to identify a method that ensures safety without compromising the nutritional integrity of Titan products. Until we have greater clarity and confidence in our processes, all production and shipments will remain on hold.
Commitment to Safety and Communication
We recognize the inconvenience and uncertainty this decision creates for our customers and partners. However, the safety of the animals we serve and the trust of our community are paramount. We are committed to keeping you informed as we navigate these challenges and determine the best course of action.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of uncertainty. Please rest assured that we are working diligently to resolve these issues and will provide updates as soon as new information becomes available.
Thank you for your continued support and trust.
Best regards,
Robert L. Wells Secretary/Treasurer
